Immortality & Eternal Life

Romans 2:5-7

(5) But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, (6) who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: (7) eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality

Immortality and eternal life are separated here as the Spirit seeks to reveal even deeper depths of God’s loving kindness to us.

Many other religions have professed to hold the keys to immortality; there certainly have been a plethora of legions about immortality.  As much as these lack in the power to make good on their claims, they lack even more in addressing what is revealed to us in the Bible’s definition of eternal life.

Jesus said, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3– revealing that eternal life addresses not only immortality, but also a quality of that life.  The promise of eternal life is made to include the perfect life given as we now have fellowship with our creator!

In John 5:24 Jesus says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”  Eternal life encompasses a quality of life that is free from sin, and consequently, free from judgment.

Again in Ephesians 2:1 Paul says,  “And you He made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins.”.

Still more, this quality of eternal life does not wait in the realms of legend- it is entirely available to us now!  In John 5:24, Jesus said that “he who believes in me has everlasting life”.

The resounding message of Christ is that He will create us new, refresh our souls, and transfer us out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light– this “fellowship” is available to us now.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1st John 1:6-7

Are you living in eternal life now?

Have you experienced fellowship with God?

These things are freely and richly available for those who have been cleansed from sin and are walking in the Light by the blood of Christ!
