The holy fear of the Lord is the means by which we bring the holiness of Christ to completion in our lives and walk in reverence with the knowledge that God will repay each person according to their works.
Romans 1:18–19 (CSB) — 18 For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, 19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them.
Romans 1:24–25 (CSB) — 24 Therefore God delivered them over in the desires of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served what has been created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.
Romans 1:26 (CSB) — 26 For this reason God delivered them over to disgraceful passions…
Romans 1:28 (CSB) — 28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a corrupt mind so that they do what is not right.
Romans 2:1–6 (CSB) — 1 Therefore, every one of you who judges is without excuse. For when you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things. 2 We know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is based on the truth. 3 Do you really think—anyone of you who judges those who do such things yet do the same—that you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you despise the riches of his kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? 5 Because of your hardened and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed. 6 He will repay each one according to his works:
1 John 1:6 (CSB) — 6 If we say, “We have fellowship with him,” and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth.
Titus 1:16 (CSB) — 16 They claim to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.
Philippians 3:18–19 (CSB) — 18 For I have often told you, and now say again with tears, that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame. They are focused on earthly things,
2 Corinthians 7:1 (CSB) — 1 So then, dear friends, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
