Romans 5:2 (CSB) We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
I want to keep this short and speak to the person who is longing to enter the presence of God, but who feels dry and does not know how to enter.
Access into the presence of God is granted in his grace through Christ by faith. This expression, “by faith”, must not be overlooked. Here, faith refers to the full assurance of the blessed promise of Christ that his blood is sufficient to give us clean access to our Father and that His Spirit is sufficient to carry us to the Father.
Hebrews 10:19-25 (CSB) Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus—20 he has inaugurated for us a new and living way through the curtain (that is, through his flesh)—21 and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. 23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us watch out for one another to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.
Every weary soul that comes to Christ seeking to enter into God’s sanctuary must come with an entire conviction of the sufficiency of Christ’s blood! Such boldness must not be mistaken for a cavalier attitude towards the holiness of God, as if one could psyche themselves up to enter the presence of God if only they were to downplay the glory of his holiness. No, but a full realization of the majesty and glory of God must be met by a full realization of the absolute sufficiency of Christ’s blood! It is with this conviction that we must draw near to God with a true heart!
James 1:6-8 (CSB) But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, 8 being double-minded and unstable in all his ways.
So often it is nothing more than the weakness of our faith in Christ that prevents us from being able to enter into the full assurance of faith and rejoice in the presence of God. And our faith can be weakened by so many things; quite often it is because one has too low a view of God Almighty or too high a view of self. One might have believed a lie that has been eating away at their faith like cancer. Or one may be too distracted with this world to gaze fully at Christ and receive from him the faith their soul needs.
Yet, to the one who hungers for the presence of God, look full into the face of Jesus. Look fully at the splendor of his holiness! See how Christ is arrayed in glory! And come into the presence of your Father under the full assurance of faith!
